The Marines landed on the Oceanside beach near midnight on Friday, May 12th. Nicole was there to greet her Captain O’Berg. After seven months of deployment, Rob was home.
Babies were in bed, but early the next morning Andrew David awoke to see his Dad. After a few minutes of eating Cheerios out of Rob’s hand, he crawled up onto his lap. Nate and Abby came down, too, squealing as they saw their dad in the living room. After lots of hugs and kisses, the kids opened a huge bag of gifts Rob had gathered during his voyage.
That day, on the way to his soccer game, Nate exclaimed, “It’s a special day, Dad.”
“Why’s that?” asked Rob.
“Because you’re home dad,” Nate replied.
Abby Rae sat in her dad’s lap throughout the day. Unsolicited, she proclaimed, “ I love you Daddy.” The next day she wouldn’t let go of Rob's hand.
On Sunday we celebrated Mother’s Day with a brunch at the harbor, the kids still sticking to their Dad like glue.
I have to add to Nate’s sentiment and say every day is a special day when Rob’s home and reunited with Nicole and his little ones.
Welcome back Captain O’Berg. Oh, how we all missed you!

I had the privilege of accompanying Rob on the USS Makin Island, during the last week of his voyage home. You can learn more about the Tiger Cruise at:
