Nate made his maiden backpacking trip to Pt. Reyes. The first day, we hiked on the Laguna Trail into Coast Camp. We explored Santa Maria beach, gathering shells and climbing on sand dunes. In the evening we were treated to a beautiful sunset and a gorgeous rising moon. At our campsite, the deer casually grazed nearby. A hawk swooped into camp, hunting for small prey.
The next morning we packed up our campsite, and headed for the steep climb up Mt. Wittenburg. We walked all morning up the trail to Sky Camp. Nate did a great job on a difficult hike.
We took a well earned rest in the afternoon, relaxing over a board game, reading our books, and sitting among the trees overlooking the Pt. Reyes Coast. Sky Camp also had a resident hawk and a large family of quail.
The final day, we hiked back down the hill to the trailhead. On the way home, Nate enjoyed a benefit of civilization: a burger and fries at M & G Burgers in Fairfax.
Congratulations Nate on being the first grandchild to continue the great backpacking tradition begun by your mom and aunties!
