Welcome to the Journeys Website
The Journeys website contains immigrant interviews written by students at James Logan High School, in Union City California. Logan juniors and seniors interviewed parents, aunties, uncles, grandparents, classmates, and community members about their journeys to the United States. Immigrants were asked about their home country and why they decided to come to the US. In addition, interviewees shared their experiences in the US and their reflections on what it means to be an American.
The name of the website was inspired by Sonia Nazario’s book Enrique’s Journey, the true story of a Honduran immigrant’s perilous journey to the United States. With the help of Facing History and Ourselves students read Ms. Nazario’ s Pulitzer Prize winning book, and heard her speak at Logan’s campus. Students then documented the journeys of new Americans to the Union City community, whose stories are linked below:
