Several chapters include historical background on the Russian Pale of Settlement and Prussian Posen. The book also contains portions of the interview with Frank Z. This photo book traces the history our ancestors, the Newmans and the Steins, from their old world in the Russian Pale to their new life in the San Francisco Bay Area. It includes parts of an interview with Frank Z. Newman conducted in 1976. He shares his father’s journey, as well as his own memories of the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 as a twelve-year-old boy.
