Jamie and I lunched at a Sausalito institution: The Lighthouse Coffee Shop. After our meal we walked and talked along the waterfront. The funky enclave of houseboats still survived, as did several of their owners from the 1960’s. I was a regular visitor at Jim's boat-home docked there in the mid 70’s. Fancier sailboats bobbed in the Bay, too, with great views of Mount Tam. Jamie took me to the refurbished Bay Model Vistor’s Center, a place we both visited in our school days. Inside, the huge scale model was surrounded by interesting exhibits, including realia and memorabilia from the Marinship Yard. Bectel opened the operation in 1942 , producing 93 cargo ships and oil tankers used in World War II.
