We visited Shakespeare’s birthplace at Stratford-upon-Avon. The two-hour train ride took us through the bucolic English countryside, spotted with picturesque farms. At Stratford-upon-Avon we toured The Bard's childhood home. Knowledgeable guides told stories of Shakespeare’s family life, as we walked through rooms decorated with a hearth, beds, tables, and windows from the 16th century.
After our tour, we meandered through Stratford to the Avon River. We hiked along its banks, dotted with graceful willows. We entered the Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare is buried.
How fun to visit the home of the most famous writer in the English language, with our most famous English teacher.
