In mid-June we visited Portland, confirming that it does indeed have great beer and coffee. It also has another wonderful tradition: Portland Pride.
When we arrived The Portland Pride Waterfront Festival and Parade was in full swing, celebrating the “positive diversity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans communities” in the Pacific Northwest. It has a 40 year history, dating back to 1977.
Businesses were draped with rainbow flags. The colorful procession made its way through Portland’s downtown, culminating in a family friendly celebration at Waterfront Park and Willamette River.
Portland’s creed appeared on parade signs: “Diversity Creates Community,” “We’re for Everybody,” and “Let Love Rule."
