Jamie invited me for a beautiful winter walk on Mount Tam. We drove up Mill Valley’s Summit Avenue to the trailhead, reminiscing about friends who lived nearby. We walked on the Hoo-Koo-E-Koo Trail toward Mountain Home.
It was a crisp, clear, January day. The trail wound through groves of redwoods, pines and manzanita. Swollen streams filled the ravines after the winter rains. At several bridges, Jamie stopped to show me his initials, carved into the railings decades before.
The path also revealed gorgeous vistas of the San Francisco Bay to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Once at Mountain Home we looped back on the old fire road. And then it was down into Mill Valley for a meal at Phyllis’ Burgers, one of Mom’s favorites.
How lucky we were to have been raised at the foot of such a beautiful mountain!
