1. The Washington Monument

I knew you could find the Washington Monument. It is easy to spot this tall obelisk from almost anywhere near the National Mall.

It was completed over one hundred years ago in 1884 to honor George Washington. I am sure you remember that he was our first president, and he led the revolutionary army against the British in the American Revolution. Washington also chose the site near the Potomac River for the nation's capital in 1791, which was later named after him.

I couldn't ride up the elevator of the monument because it was being renovated. However, I have heard you can get a great view of Washington D. C. from the top.
