Across the Potomac River in Virginia is the Arlington National Cemetery. Over 300,000 veterans are buried there, from every US war from the American Revolution to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Arlington National Cemetery was founded after the Civil War, and includes the burial of both Union and Confederate soldiers. At the cemetery you can visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which has the remains of unidentified service men from World War 1, World War II, and Korean War.
In addition to our war heroes, Arlington Cemetery also is the resting place for Presidents and national leaders. President John F. Kennedy, along with his brothers Senators Robert and Edward Kennedy are buried there. His grave lies next to the eternal flame.
