5. The Korean War Veterans Memorial

To the southeast of the Lincoln Memorial is the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Nineteen statues of gray infantrymen represent the American soldiers who fought in the Korean War during the 1950's. Each, larger than life, stainless steel statue is moving up an imaginary hill. At the top of the hill is an American flag and a reflecting pool.

The Korean War Veterans Memorial also has a black granite wall. Unlike the Vietnam Wall, the shorter wall in this memorial is etched with soldiers' faces and not names. Engraved at the top end of the wall are the words:

"Freedom is Not Free"
