Sophomore year you studied World War II, including the rise of Hitler, the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the titanic battles of WW II resulting in the Allies' defeat of the Axis Powers in 1945. This year we will focus on the Home Front, looking at war production, victory gardens, and the changing role of women in the US during the war. We will also learn about the incarceration of 110,000 Americans of Japanese descent. In addition to the Internment experience, we will study the special contributions of US fighting groups in WW II, like the Japanese American 442nd, the Navajo Code Talkers, and the African American Tuskegee Airmen.
