Too Late to Bring Him Home

Growing up my dad

Wasn’t really there

 Still I knew all along

That he really cared

I was just a child

What could I know

About the man who was lost

In a war so long ago

it's too late to bring him home,

He’s in a distant land

Fighting a war

I can’t begin to understand

Thinking about what he’s done

and where he’s been

Living the pain

Over and over again

When I was only ten

My brother went to war

I did not know then

He end up different than before

When he came back

 Part of him was lost

But, I was too young to understand the cost

It's too late to bring him home,

He’s in a distant land

Fighting a war

I can’t begin to understand

Thinking about what he’s done

and where he’s been

Living the pain

Over and over again

Now I watch my son

Staring into space

Knowing that his mind

Is in a foreign place

I can’t give him back

all the years that he’s lost

But, now I understand what war can cost

And what war’s done

To these young men

Who live the pain of war

Over and over again

Over and over again

Over and over again
