Streetlight Days

I’m driving down the street

Where we both lived so long ago,

Passing the streetlight

Halfway between our childhood homes,

Where underneath we talked at night

And shared our young hearts’ dreams,

In those days when the world was right,

Or so it seemed.

Sometimes I think about

Those streetlight days, old friend,

When our world was no bigger

 than where the sidewalk ends

When life was light

And the sun was bright

And we floated through our days

Believing it would always be this way.

Sometimes I miss those streetlight days.

I remember

Playing hide and seek

Behind the old high school,

Racing down the street so fast to

The local pool,

Riding bikes until

The sun went down,

Playing our guitars

In those days when we

Never went too far.
