The second unit of the AP Gov course focuses on civil liberties found in the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments in the Constitution. In addition, during this unit we will explore civil rights. Political scientists usually distinguish between civil liberties, the rights granted to every American individual in the US Constitution and civil rights, the rights won historically by groups of individuals such as women and African Americans. We will explore both how civil liberties and civil rights have expanded in our Constitution and our laws.
